Chase B. Steinlauf advises clients on compliance issues relating to tax-qualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and executive compensation arrangements.
In the qualified plan area, he counsels clients on a wide variety of topics, including plan design considerations, operational compliance with IRS and ERISA requirements, and the impact of new regulatory developments. He also represents clients in connection with audits by the IRS and DOL.
With respect to health and welfare plans, he provides compliance advice regarding traditional insured arrangements, account-based plans (such as HRAs, FSAs and HSAs), tuition reimbursement programs, and other categories of welfare benefits.
For both retirement and health plans, he also regularly advises plan administrators on their fiduciary obligations under ERISA, including with respect to plan investments; conducts trainings and compliance presentations at Committee and Trustee meetings; drafts benefits-related language for collective bargaining agreements; and negotiates service agreements.
In the executive compensation area, he primarily advises on nonqualified deferred compensation plan matters, including compliance-related corrections, participant communications, and plan design considerations.
